Cupping therapy is an alternative therapy originating from China. This therapy involves heating and a cup that is attached to the surface of the skin to allow suction on the skin. Cupping therapy is usually used as a complement to treatment for people who experience a number of certain diseases and conditions.

Understanding the Cupping Process

Before doing cupping, usually the cup will be heated first over a fire using alcohol, herbal concoctions, or special paper that is placed directly into the cup. When the fire decreases and finally dies, the glass is immediately placed on the surface of the patient's skin.



Until finally the air in the glass feels cold, then the cold air will pull the skin in the cup and the surface of the skin turns red due to blood pressure that responds to changes.

However, the method above is still classified as traditional. Now there is also a more modern cupping device using a rubber pump. Through this device, the therapist uses a silicone cup that they can move from one place to another on your skin.

In the method, cupping therapy is divided into two types, namely dry cupping and wet cupping. In this type of dry cupping therapy, the cup will be left for a few minutes, until finally the skin turns red and sticks up.

Unlike the wet cupping therapy, a superficial incision is made on the skin of the cupping, then re-suction is done in the area of ​​the skin that is cut to remove a small portion of blood. When finished, the injured area will be smeared with antibiotic ointment and covered with a bandage to prevent infection.

Cupping and its Benefits for the Body

Although it requires further research, cupping therapy is thought to be able to treat:

High blood pressure

Migraine

Depression, anxiety

Blood disorders, such as hemophilia and anemia

Fertility problems and womb problems

Fibromyalgia and arthritis

Acne and eczema

Varies

Blockage of the bronchi (respiratory tract) caused by asthma or allergies.

If you choose cupping therapy to treat your health problems, there is no need to worry too much about the scars that appear. Redness marks on the skin after cupping therapy will generally disappear on their own within 10 days.

Although cupping therapy may have various benefits, more research is needed, including the risk of side effects from the therapy. Consult with your doctor if you are still undergoing this therapy, especially for those of you who are pregnant or have doubts about suffering from cancer.
